Netball in Memory of Sarah Simpson

Sarah Simpson passed away suddenly on the 19th April 2007 leaving her family and friends devastated. Colin & Hilary, Sarah’s Dad & Mum have been passionate to raise awareness of ‘Sudden Cardiac Death Syndrome’ in the young since Sarah’s death. They are achieving this by supporting the charity ‘Cardiac Risk in the Young’ (CRY).

One of Sarah’s friends, Steph Sawyer, Staffordshire University netball team captain decided that she also wanted to be involved with the charity. Therefore Steph along with Esther Kendrick and Lauren Davison put thought into action by organising a 10 hour sponsored netball match in memory of Sarah.

The event took place on the 28th October 2007 and was well attended by the students of the university where the girls played the boys. The boys had their eyes opened at the pace and the abilities of the girls.

Colin Simpson & Deb Sawyer took part in the match but age took it’s toll the next day! Money raised by the event was over £2,000.
